Swimming Crash Courses
Five 1-to-1 coached sessions over two weeks. Technique, video analysis and race-pace work — for club, competitive and adult swimmers who need rapid improvement before a goal.
Two weeks.
Real change.
A swimming crash course is an intensive block of coaching designed to drive measurable improvement over a concentrated period — not spread thinly across months. Five sessions delivered over approximately two weeks, working systematically through technique assessment, targeted drills and race-pace conditioning.
A crash course is a committed block of one-to-one coaching — the private counterpart to our group Swim Camps. It's popular with club and competitive swimmers targeting a specific gala or qualifying meet, parents booking a focused technical block for an age-group swimmer in the school holidays, and adults — triathletes, returning and masters swimmers — who want serious technical gains without committing to open-ended weekly coaching. The concentrated format accelerates learning: your brain adapts faster when sessions are closer together.
All sessions run from our coaching pools in Borehamwood and Bushey — 25-metre, lane-hire facilities with free parking and early morning availability. Sessions typically run 2–3 times per week depending on your schedule. Your coach works with the same swimmer across all five sessions, so each session builds directly on the last.

Each session builds on the previous one. The five-session structure is designed so every session has a specific purpose — not five versions of the same thing.
Technical assessment
Your coach watches you swim across different distances and paces. They identify the 2–3 specific technical changes with the most impact on your swimming. Video analysis available in session one.
Foundations & drills
Targeted drills addressing the priority areas identified in session one. Your coach gives poolside feedback on every rep. Technique changes are locked in through repetition, not explanation.
Building under fatigue
The technique work from sessions 1–2 is now tested under progressively increasing load. Can you hold the new patterns when you're tired? This is where real-world improvement gets built.
Stroke integration
Full-stroke swimming with the technical corrections integrated into normal pacing. Your coach fine-tunes the specific details — catch timing, kick rhythm, breathing pattern — that translate directly to speed.
Race-pace & debrief
The final session is race-pace work and a structured debrief. What has changed. What to focus on independently. What to book next if you want to build further.
Who crash courses
are for
Club swimmers before a gala
A focused block in the weeks before county, regional or club champs — fixing the specific technical limiter that's costing time, while squad training carries the fitness.
Age-group swimmers in the holidays
Parents booking a concentrated private block for a junior swimmer over half-term or the holidays — the one-to-one counterpart to our group Swim Camps.
Competitive athletes in a build phase
Using the off-season or an early competition block to fix specific technical limiters before the main competitive season.
Swimmers who've plateaued
Training consistently for months but times aren't moving. Five focused 1-to-1 sessions with an expert coach often unlock what independent training can't.
Triathletes before a race
Race in 4–8 weeks and the swim leg is holding you back. A crash course gives you enough time to make technique changes stick before race day.
Returning & masters swimmers
Back after time away, or short on time — two weeks of intensive coaching resets technique faster than months of occasional sessions, without an open-ended commitment.
Straightforward
pricing.
Crash courses are priced as a block — one payment for all five sessions with the same coach. No hidden extras, no per-session add-ons. Video analysis is included in session one at no additional cost.
Prices vary slightly depending on coach level and session timing. Enquire with your dates and goals and we'll confirm exact pricing and availability within 24 hours.
Common
questions
A crash course is an intensive block of 5 coached sessions delivered over approximately 2 weeks — typically 2–3 sessions per week. It's designed to drive rapid improvement in a short window: ideal before a triathlon, open water event, or competition, or for swimmers who want to overhaul their technique quickly rather than through long-term weekly coaching.
You need to be able to swim continuous lengths — the entry requirement is roughly 400m without stopping. Crash courses are not beginner swimming lessons. They are for swimmers who already have the basics but want to fix technique problems, build speed, or prepare for a specific event. If you're new to swimming entirely, one-to-one coaching is a better starting point.
Yes — pre-race crash courses are one of the most common reasons swimmers book. We recommend starting 4–6 weeks before your event so technique changes have time to bed in before race day. If you're inside 3 weeks of your race, we'll focus more on race-specific conditioning and confidence-building than fundamental technique overhaul.
Crash courses are priced at £350 for a 5-session block — five sessions with the same coach, structured as a progressive programme. Enquire with your goals and dates and we'll confirm availability and exact pricing within 24 hours.
Sessions run from our two coaching pools — The Venue Leisure Centre in Borehamwood (WD6) and Bushey Grove Leisure Centre in Bushey (WD23). Both are 25-metre pools with lane hire. When you enquire, we'll confirm which pool your matched coach operates from and agree a session schedule that works for you.
