Starts, Dives
& Turns Clinic
A specialist 2–3 hour Starts, Dives & Turns technique clinic. One stroke, one session, real change. Max 6 swimmers, Borehamwood — launching soon, join the waiting list.
What the Starts, Dives & Turns
clinic fixes
These are the parts of a race most swimmers never practise in training — and the parts where races are quietly won and lost. A flat start, a wide turn or a shallow breakout can cost several metres before you've taken a single stroke.
This clinic builds the skills that pay back in every race and every length: legal, explosive starts, tight turns on all four strokes, and underwater work that carries real speed off the wall.

Inside the
Starts, Dives & Turns clinic
Every minute is spent on the technical detail that makes the biggest difference — with precise, individual poolside feedback throughout.
Legal dive starts from blocks
Track start versus grab start, reaction timing, entry angle and streamline — a consistent, legal start that gives you an immediate advantage.
Tumble turns: freestyle and backstroke
Approach speed, flip mechanics, foot placement and push-off angle — a turn that carries momentum instead of killing it.
Open turns: breaststroke and butterfly
Two-hand touch timing, the pivot and getting off the wall fast without a disqualification — legal, fast and repeatable.
Underwater dolphin kicks
Kick rate, depth and the breakout point that turn every wall into free speed — often the most undertrained part of a swimmer's race.
The backstroke start
The start from the gutter, flag counting and the crossover timing that gets you legally and quickly into the stroke.
Streamline off every wall
The tight, held streamline position that protects the speed your start and turn just generated — the detail that ties it all together.
The habits costing
you time
- A flat dive that lands you slow and shallow
- Gliding too long underwater and stalling before the breakout
- Breathing into or out of the turn and losing the wall
- Wide, slow turns that bleed momentum on every length
- A late or sloppy breakout that gives back the speed off the wall

Live demonstrations at every clinic
Starts and turns are skills you learn fastest by watching and copying. A guest swimmer demonstrates dive entries, tumble and open turns and underwater breakouts at full speed, while a guest coach breaks each one down into the steps you can take straight onto the blocks. Across our clinics we bring in guest coaches and guest swimmers for live and slow-motion demonstrations, so you don't just hear the correction — you watch it, then try it with feedback the same session.

FAQs
Why dedicate a whole clinic to starts and turns?
Because they're free speed that hardly anyone trains. Across a race, a sharp start, fast turns and strong breakouts can save more time than weeks of fitness work — yet most swimmers never practise them.
Will we use the starting blocks?
Yes, where the venue permits. Dive starts from the blocks, including track and grab starts and the backstroke start, are a core part of the clinic.
Is this clinic only for competitive swimmers?
It's most relevant to club and competitive swimmers, but any confident swimmer wanting safe, legal dives and efficient turns will benefit. The focus is skill, not fitness.
